How to Cope with a Job That You Hate

You are at a crossroads. You hate your job and it makes you miserable. It makes you wonder if you should stay and see if it gets better or leave. Which means you are trying to determine if you can cope and wait it out or not. I’ll stop you while you are ahead and say DON’T! Get the hell out and fire your employer! I’m serious, it’s not worth it. It is best to trust your gut with these situations. Your instincts are great at realizing if you are in a bad situation or not. Trust them and make the right decision. Don’t drag your feet on it because adding time to the equation will only make it worse.

I’ve seen these situations many times. You can tell when someone isn’t happy or even yourself. They are thinking of jumping ship but can’t seem to pull the trigger. I’ve been in that same situation as well. Do yourself a favor, pull the trigger and jump ship. If you are going to do it sooner or later you might as well do it sooner. You don’t want to miss out on a fantastic job opportunity.

Why You Should Get Out If You Are Miserable

I’m not talking to those people that are alright with their job but have a couple complaints. I mean the ones that are clearly not happy. There’s a big difference because not all employers are perfect. There may be some flaws that you see past. But if you are miserable you are wasting your potential. Get out and go prove yourself with another employer. If there is something seriously wrong with your employer then it is alright to leave if it means you’ll be happier.

Recently, at an Ashley Homestore I worked at, there was a mass exodus of people leaving. Everyone realized that the owners of the company treated employees poorly and cut everyone’s pay, while increasing job duties. This sort of treatment was tolerated for a short while. Then, the employer tried to get away with more things like bait and switches, extending of hours, etc. and the employees had enough of it. There was a one week span where 7 high performing employees all quit and will be many more to follow. Please understand that you can take all those valuable skills and experiences you learned to a new employer and make a name for yourself.

Finally, there are many wonderful places to work. Don’t make yourself think you cannot get a job at one of those places! You will be surprised. If someone does not value you, someone else will. If you need help on your next interview check out my post on How to Ace Your Next Interview. If you don’t leave, you are not performing at your highest potential. Don’t hold yourself back from what you are capable of. It is not fair to do that to yourself.

The Results from Firing Your Employer

If you fire your employer you are going to lift the heavy weights off your shoulders. It will be satisfying and will make you feel relieved. The stress and anxiety will no longer be tearing you apart inside. When you are unhappy you are in a negative state of mind. You can only fake happiness for so long. Firing your employer will open your mind back up to being positive and joyful. Hope will fill your heart once again. Not only that, but if you are taking my sales advice and applying it *cough* *cough* *subscribe to my blog* *cough* you are going to perform at higher levels (check out how to stay driven with these 6 easy steps). The clean slate with a new employer will be just what you need to get back on track.

Overall, there is no need to stay employed somewhere if you are miserable. You owe it to yourself to muster up enough courage to fire your employer. Even if you join another terrible employer with your new job you can quit them too. Quit thinking you are stuck places or have to be there for a year or it will look bad on a resume. If you have a great reason to leave any employer is going to understand that. Times are changing. Employers need to be as competitive as ever to keep employees for the long run! You will be surprised what someone will pay for you if you create enough value for yourself!
